Clingy Street Child Asks for Alms Inside Jeepney by Hugging PassengersTrending News Portal

On Facebook, the phrase ‘kyah pembarya‘ [kuya, can I have some coins?] has been trending for a few weeks now. This phrase is jokingly attributed to clingy street children who beg for alms in public. It is more commonly used on Facebook and people have quickly adapted it into memes!

Recently, a Facebook user named Mitzi Ruth contributed to the growing fad with her hilarious video.

On Wednesday, September 4, Ruth posted a video on Facebook which shows a clingy female child asking for alms inside a public utility jeepney. This itself is not an unusual scene in the Philippines. As a matter of fact, some less unfortunate people are not content with sitting around and waiting for alms; instead, they walk proactively and approach people, including commuters. Some of them show their talent by singing or dancing, while some tell a sob story to get people’s sympathy. If this is a common scene, why did Ruth’s video became sensational on social media?

During the short clip, a young female street child can be seen approaching several passengers in a jeepney. She was asking for alms but people were taking no notice of her. In an attempt to get their attention, the clingy street child hugged them in the lap while repeatedly asking for alms.

At one point, she even clung to the arms of a male passenger!

This stunt reminded people of the ‘kyah pembarya’ thing because of how the clingy street child asked for alms. As of writing , the video has already reached more than 11k shares on Facebook alone. This definitely caught the attention of netizens who were amused with the clingy street child.

On the other hand, some people who have watched the video have a different take on this issue. Some of them couldn’t help but feel annoyed at the video, with one even jokingly said that he will slap the child if it happens to him in public.

Would you have the same reaction? Check out the video below and see for yourself!
