Hands down, Philippine bet Rachel Peters had everyone talking about her fierce performance on the preliminary competitions of Miss Universe 2017 when she sashayed with her signature ‘infinity walk’ on the ramp.
Rachel absolutely slayed the swimsuit and evening gown rounds on November 21st at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
Despite the limited and cramped space, supporters of the Binibining Pilipinas Universe came in full force to show their love. And true enough, Rachel didn’t disappoint anyone who came to see the bronzed beauty.
In the swimsuit competition, Rachel showed off her toned body and perfect form in a skimpy two-piece bikini in black from Yamamay.
During the evening gown round, Rachel was a glittering vision in an embellished gold evening gown with a thigh-high slit crafted by Val Taguba, a Filipino designer based in Dubai.
Two days prior, during the pre-pageant national costume, Rachel looked spectacular in her gold Sarimanok-inspired ensemble. She looked stunning in her sequined one-piece with a train that doubles as a pair of wings when unfolded. Her ornate headgear similar to a rooster’s bust was also done in gold plating – all created by Taguba.
But wait, there’s more. Her knee-high gladiator sandals in high heels were made by Jojo Bragais.
Rachel took to Instagram and described her get-up as a nod to the Sarimanok, a “legendary bird symbolizing good fortune for the Maranao ethnic tribe in Mindanao”, according to the ABS-CBN report.
The PH bet was also thankful for the enormous support from the Filipino community in the US.
“Tonight was sooo much fun! Shoutout to all the Filipinos who were there for me tonight. I seriously felt the love and have been all week. Thank you to all my kababayans around the world for your relentless support, votes and prayers! I appreciate you all,” she posted.
Because of her strong performance in the preliminaries, combined with the overwhelming support, Rachel is considered as one of the early favorites in the international beauty pageant.
The grand coronation night will be aired on November 27th at 8 a.m. on the ABS-CBN network.
